Vegan Thanksgiving 2023

Thanksgiving was never a holiday I was very excited about until recently. There are tons of historical reasons to avoid it and, well, I’m vegan. However, over the past few years, especially during covid, I have learned how to cook and am on a mission to convince everyone that vegan food is delicious! What better day to do this than on the day of the year that is known for its gluttonous meat consumption! My goal is to have my guests happy, full, and still feeling healthy by the end of the night!

Justin Vivian Bond Embodies Marianne Faithfull At Joe's Pub

If you are a fan of Marianne Faithfull, like I am, then you are drawn to her raspy voice and poetic lyrics that resonate from another time, yet are just as relevant today. So, when I saw that the infamous Justin Vivian Bond was going to perform a Marianne Faithfull tribute evening, called Sex With Strangers, it was an easy sell!

Did You Know That Oregon Is On Fire?

I know we don’t like to talk about climate change and how it is going to kill us all, but we need to start paying attention. I live in New York City where we are used to air pollution, but this past June was something else. We had orange skies of death and were told to avoid going outside at all costs, all because of fires in Canada. Canada! Miles and miles away! Yes, this was horrible and scary, but it got news coverage.

The Olympics of Pole Sports

Tis the season… for Pole Sports! Well, really it is just starting to be the season. Let me explain. Like many sports the athletes train year round, but there are particular times when the different competitions happen. I am a US based athlete so I will be speaking more about the US, but it is much the same across the globe. The summer is when most of the national competitions happen for the athletes, then late fall and early winter is when the International competitions occur. One must first qualify on the national level, creating the US Team in our case, to go to Worlds. While we are not an Olympic sport yet, we are handled in much the same way.

Crys Matthews Is The Fire

I have had the pleasure to see a few artists a Joe’s Pub now, but none were so intimate as coming to see Crys Matthews sit down and sing with her audience. The way she spoke and sang to her crowd you felt like you were sitting in a living room with her taking a break from drawing up the latest set of signs for your next protest together.

Jackie Hoffman Is Far From PC

I had never seen Jackie Hoffman perform live before, but I have enjoyed her characters on TV and films, most recently Uma Heller in Only Murders in the Building. She is often tight casted to play a mouthy older jewish woman, which is basically her personality — so it is a perfect match! What I wasn’t as familiar with is her Broadway background and her solo shows! This evening I learned that Jackie Hoffman can sing!!

Skincare De La Heart

With there being so many beauty products on the market these days it is hard to know what to try. I’m personally new to the idea of lymphatic drainage, but as an all natural girl, it just makes sense! The way I see it, it is a three step process. First, you exfoliate your skin through dry brushing; makes sense, it is good to get rid of dead skin cells. Next, you shower to clean all that off. Finally, you use, basically, a massage tool with oil all over your body. I mean, who doesn’t want a full body massage?! I have only tried De La Heart’s kit a few times now, but I can say my skin feels softer and happier after the process. But don’t take it from me, we spoke to the pro herself, owner of De La Heart Giordana Vogel, to break down the lymphatic drainage process, all the nuances, and tell us a bit more about her business. Please read on!

Traveling Vegan - What Is A Guadeloupe?

As an American who has traveled a lot, I was surprised to hear of an island in the Caribbean that I had never heard of before – Guadeloupe. Like all of the Americas, Guadeloupe was doing just fine until Christopher Columbus landed on it in November 1493. This beautiful butterflied shaped land actually consists of two main islands that are close enough to connect via a bridge, and a few smaller islands around.

Sustainable clothing comes in many shapes and sizes these days, but what is more sustainable than eco-friendly made staples? We want to have clothing that isn’t just for a one or two time use, and that is what Nation is going for.
