COVER - The Wellness Of Sustainability

In just a month it already feels like a new world. We have a president who wears a mask, recognizes science, and very importantly is making steps in the right direction for our environment. In a lot of ways, I feel that the pandemic has awaken us to what is truly important to us — our loved ones, our health, and our future. While we are navigating this current situation, it is very important to not forget about the other issues on hand. Climate change is hot on our heels! I mean, Texas is frozen over, while ice caps are melting.

We talk about sustainable improvements to our lives, but one of my favorite is fashion. Fashion is notorious for being very wasteful, but it doesn’t have to be! There is an ever increasing array of designers who are eco-friendly and amazing! But while I feel people are starting to notice this, we are not talking as much about one part of fashion that can also be sustainable and vegan, shoes! So, I thought, what would be a better way to show off some amazing sustainable shoe brands than on a contortionist! Side note: Victoria Gibbs doesn’t think she is a contortionist, but if she isn’t she is certainly up there for me. If you can put your feet over your head and put them on the ground, then I’m convinced you are a contortionist!

On addition to showing off amazing shoes in a cool way, Victoria talks with us about health, wellness, being very bendy, and her work with Lupus. To learn more about Victoria, please read our exclusive interview below.

Women's Health & Sustainability? Hello Nyssa!

I maybe a little ways off from having a child, but I’m 100% woman, and I know the struggles and pain of having a period. So, I was very curious to learn more when I found out about the women owned and run postpartum comfort underwear business Nyssa, who also helps with period pain. Like many women, I experience pretty severe pain for a few days a month. I have learned a few ways to manage it: work out more and wear period underwear, but the pain still comes. So, this month I got the pleasure to experiment with Nyssa’s underwear. I tried their Nyssa VieWear Underwear, which comes with an ice/heat pack and a pocket built into the underwear for it! While you still have to find a way to deal with the period itself, I have to say walking around with a heat pack on my back, certainly made me a lot happier this month. Also, as an added bonus, these are great for athletes who are prone to hurting themselves.. I may or may not know a little something about that. To learn more about this super empowering company, please read our exclusive interview below.

The Importance Of Having A Healthy Skincare Regimen

COVID-19 has made us spend an unprecedented amount of time in our homes. As a result of having nowhere to go for the past six months, a lot of us have stopped using make-up on a day-to-day basis. Since the outbreak of the pandemic, many people’s eyes have been open to the importance of skincare and how it correlates to our overall health. Maintaining an effective skincare regimen can help prevent acne, treat wrinkles, and help your skin look its best. If you are looking to add to your core basic skincare essentials, make sure to have: a cleanser to gently wash your face, a toner to help smooth and calm skin while restoring nutrients, a moisturizer to use after every time you wash your face (even if you have oily skin), sunscreen for sun protection, and an exfoliator that should only be used once or twice a week. If you need inspiration, check out ethical skincare companies such as Alba Botanica, Acure, Derma E, Mukti, and Skyn Iceland. Bear Walker: The Skateboard Craftsman

The skateboarding subculture has long thrived on it rebellious inclinations. Quite like graffiti and punk rock subcultures, skateboarding held an anti-establishment sensibility derived from pure instinct. In the late 80s - 90s, when the popularity of vert skating was on the decline, many skaters turned to street skating as a means of accessibility to complex spots. However, in recent times the modern perception of skateboarding has changed drastically. Skateboard decks are now seen as genuine art pieces and even designed by revered artists, designer fashion houses, and collected in mass with brands like Supreme at the forefront of the revolution. Some skateboard artists are even taking their art and using it for good.

Bear Walker creates custom boards by incorporating intricate carving techniques, encompassing aspects of art and functionality. For every board sold, the Bear Walker brand plants two trees. In addition, they’ve also partnered with Shazam’s Zachary Levi to help create a limited edition run of skateboards that were auctioned off with all proceeds going to Covenant House. Please read our exclusive interview here to learn more about Bear Walker and his beautiful boards.
