Alt Pop artist, Cat Janice’s story is truly inspiring. Between her battle with Cancer and passion for music, she has been able to tell her story through an artistic lens. Born and raised in Northern Virginia, Cat’s love for music began at the ripe age of six and just kept on growing as she got involved in playing instruments and joining different musical groups. After being diagnosed with cancer, she felt like her life was completely falling apart and she began to lose focus on what she loves most, music. However, she realized that music was her outlet and decided to use it to raise awareness and express her self. Her new single, ‘Chill the fck out’ represents her way of relieving stress after her cancer diagnosis and sending the positive message of normalizing anxiety and finding ways to work through it. Besides music, Cat is involved in several nonprofits that focus on a variety of different, important causes. He began the Thirst Project as a way to raise awareness about the global water crisis, but never imagined the successful organization it turned out to be. With over 3,000 projects the Thirst Project has helped over 500,000 people around the world gain access to clean drinking water. Seth also created Legacy Youth Leadership which is a non-profit organization that provides students with the tools to reach their academic and philanthropic goals. Jejune got a chance to chat with Seth about his inspiration and hopes for the future generation.

Mereki, the Australian/English Indie-Pop princess, is spreading kindness one song at a time, literally. Mereki created Merekis Clubhouse in 2016 as a platform for creativity and a space for up-and-coming female artists. The Clubhouse motto “Be Kind” grew into a nonprofit of its own and now hosts annual benefit concerts that help raise money for charities. Music still drives the source of inspiration for Mereki with her most recent single “Presence” which dropped in December. Jejune got the chance to talk to Mereki about her work inside and outside of the studio.

Restored Reflection, Inc. founders Rionel Fisher and Tamela Robinson-Fischer held their 2nd Annual Fashion With A Purpose Fashion Show, which was hosted by KJLH Radio Personality Tammi Mac. This event, held at Grand Hope Park in downtown Los Angeles, began with a red carpet and was followed by a fashion show featuring designers from around the world. All proceeds from this event will benefit Restored Reflections, Inc., a non-profit that provides economic impact training, education, and community development to at-risk, inner-city youth and young adults. How Songwriting Saves The World

Songwriting Saves the World is a podcast started by Sasha Bellentine and Annick Blaize in April of 2020. Their inspiration behind the podcast was to create a community of writers and musicians that was both largely female and queer. You can listen to Songwriting Saves the World on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud and more. They also promote a diverse range of artists on their podcast and social media accounts to support female and queer artists in the music industry. This past holiday season the podcast featured representatives from I Support the Girls and Affirmations. I Support the Girls is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting and collecting resources for homeless and impoverished women. Affirmations is an LGBTQ nonprofit centered in Michigan that provides resources for the LGBTQ+ community in Michigan and beyond. With this collaboration, the co-hosts wished to show ways to help women and LGBTQ outside of the music industry as well. Folk Duo HuDost and the Collective Voice

HuDost is a Kentucky based musical group made up of members Moksha Sommer and Jemal Wide Hines. The folk duo recently released their newest album, ‘Anthems of Home’ with singles ‘Our Words Will Be Louder’ and ‘Home is Bigger Than Us.’ The single ‘Our Words Will be Louder’ was inspired by the painful polarization around BLM in their own community. The duo put together a powerful music video to match the song and invited friends and local activists to join. Additionally, all proceeds from the song went towards The Poor People’s Campaign, a local non-profit that empowers people with greater challenges to register to vote. Moksha and Jemal are also social activists and representatives for ONE, a non-profit organization working to end extreme poverty. The pair has lobbied with their representatives both locally and at their offices in DC on various issues such as extreme poverty, the rights of girls and women and HIV/AIDs. They also work with ONE’s sister organization Blood:Water, a grassroots organization that addresses the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa.
