Melanie Camp has gone from one big British colony to one that broke way from the Queen, but after some bumps in the road, she is finding her way nicely! Inspired by her high school counselor to become a TV host Melanie found her way to the Los Angeles and eventually Houston when she is a now part of the Houston Life, fulfilling her dream to be a TV personality! Our Favorite Progressive Candidates in 2023 - Heidi Drauschak, Virginia State Senate District 35

Today we are continuing our off-year elections profiles of progressive candidates! This week’s candidate is Heidi Drauschak (she/her), a millennial entrepreneur and brand new mother. During the middle of the campaign only a few weeks ago, Heidi delivered her son Atlas Wolf, 8 lb. 12 oz. on April 26, 2023. As such, most of her campaigning has been done during the late stages of her pregnancy. An alumnus of the Obama White House, Heidi is passionate about campaign finance reform, workers’ rights, gun safety, environmental issues, criminal justice reform and women’s reproductive rights.

Breaking the Chains Foundation - How to Love YourSelfie Event

The Breaking the Chains Foundation recently hosted the “How to Love YourSelfie” Live event, an inspiring event aimed at decreasing the pressure to achieve a certain body ideal that is often perpetuated by social media. Created by popular actress Jillian Rose Reed, this innovative program seeks to increase media literacy, reduce perfectionism, and build resilience by increasing self-compassion and body appreciation. The Breaking the Chains Foundation’s How to Love YourSelfie Live program is a great example of the foundation’s fabulous work. By transforming research and personal stories into artistic programs, the foundation works to create a safe nurturing environment where individuals can thrive. A positive attitude toward one’s body is key in increasing self-love, self-esteem, and self-acceptance, and this program is doing an amazing job at helping individuals achieve this.

Our Favorite Progressive Candidates in 2023 - Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church

It’s 2023, and just in case you thought it was an “off year” for elections, there are off-year elections! This year, Virginia is having its state and local elections. Today we are kicking off our 2023 progressive candidate profiles with Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, who is the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Arlington County and the City of Falls Church in Virginia. Parisa is the first Iranian-American Chief Prosecutor in United States history. Elected in 2019, Parisa ran on a platform of making the criminal justice system fairer to marginalized communities by no longer asking for cash bail, ending prosecution of marijuana possession, addressing racial disparities, not charging minors as adults, creating an independent body to review use of force by police, restoring voting rights to the formerly convicted, and creating a restorative justice process. In her first term in office, she has done all of that.

Housewife, a Toronto- based indie rock outfit, led by 20-year-old solo artist Brighid Fry (she/they), has recently released the music video for their single, “Fuck Around Phase,” and announced a North American tour with Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini. Housewife’s songwriting intertwines timelessness with thought-provoking perspectives on AFAB experience in a male-dominated industry.
