Where are you based?
I was born in London, England, and I am now based in Los Angeles.
Originally you are from the U.K, what was it that inspired you to cross the pond?
My whole family moved from the UK to the US six years ago for my dad’s job. It was a very big transition for us all, but I was particularly excited to move to another country where Film and TV plays such a large part of the media and entertainment market, influencing culture, society, and global audiences.
Congratulations on graduating as Valedictorian, what are you hoping to learn in this next stage in life?
Graduating as Valedictorian was a huge honor and something I had worked extremely hard for throughout my senior years at High School. I am now accepting offers to some top colleges in Southern California. I have always had a strong work ethic and loved school. I am very interested in Psychology, with a focus on Child Development, and I am looking forward to basing my major around behavioral studies as part of my university experience.
When did you begin your acting career and was it something you always planned?
My mum was a TV producer and children’s agent in London, working for one of the leading theatrical agencies before I was born. I was a very social and outgoing child, so the agency reached out to me and my parents to see if I’d like to join their roster. My mum agreed and took me to my first commercial casting at the age of three, which I can remember I loved. I booked the commercial and then went on to work on set for various other brands. I started singing and dancing classes from the age of five. At six years old, I was sent for my first musical theatre casting for the role of Gretl in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sound of Music”, UK Tour. During the audition process, I needed to dance, act and sing songs from the show. My excitement when my agent called to tell me I had booked the part of Gretl was a day I will never forget. When rehearsals started, I had just turned seven. I had the most amazing and talented team of kids to work with and we got to tour around the UK, performing in regional theaters in Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Norwich, Glasgow, Cardiff, and London’s Wimbledon Theater. I was always very good at taking direction from such a young age, and I knew then that acting and performing was something I wanted to continue doing throughout my life.
If you could act alongside anyone on screen who would it be and why?
Someone I would love to act alongside would be Meryl Streep. I think she is a truly phenomenal actress. She can literally convey a million words just using her eyes. There’s a particular scene in “The Devil Wears Prada” where she glances across to Anne Hathaway’s character Andy, right at the end of the movie, with a look that sent shivers down my spine. Just astonishing. I would learn as much from her as possible, given the experience on set, and ask her questions so that I can grow as an actress.
This year you have several new films coming out, can you tell us about Karmas A Bitch and your character without any spoilers?
Karma’s a Bitch is a supernatural thriller about a young girl called Charley, who’s not only navigating high school and falling in love but also trying to carry out her dying mother’s final wishes. In the movie, I play the role of Chloe Winters. My character is a key turning point in Charley’s story, but I can’t say too much more as I don’t want to give away any spoilers. What I can tell you is that I needed to take stunt training on set, and it proved to be a very different and challenging role to any I have played before. I’m excited to see the movie come out soon.
As a young actress, where do you see yourself in the future?
I want to continue to audition and book more roles, work with talented people, and stretch my experience across different genres, from horror to drama, to comedy. Every opportunity, whether it be an audition, producer or director meeting, or filming on set is a new experience to learn and grow from. I see myself working on a variety of different projects and showing diversity as an actress.
We love that you also take the time to give back. Can you tell us about your work with California Kids Belong? Why is this organization important to you?
Having built a strong social media presence, I knew that I wanted to be a role model for others and use my voice to raise awareness for charities and organizations that I am passionate about. I am an ambassador for “California Kids Belong”, an incredible non-profit organization that helps foster kids and teens find their forever-loving homes and family. We bring foster care kids’ personalities and lives to life on film, so we can help find them forever-loving homes. I get to work with some incredible kids who deserve so much in life, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing them loved and settled.
What advice would you give someone considering fostering or adopting a foster child?
I would say to make sure that you have a stable and loving home, because when fostering, the child or teen will need lots of care, attention, and love. They need a listening ear and guidance to feel heard and understood. Also, you need to have enormous amounts of patience, because it will take time for them to adjust and feel comfortable in a new home environment.
You also work with St Jude’s Cancer Hospital. Can you tell us a little bit about this work and how you got connected with this hospital?
I am co-president of “Team Young Hollywood”, which we started in February 2020, and together we have raised over $50,000 for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, so they can develop cures and save lives.
Why is it important to you to volunteer? Has charity work always been an aspect of your life?
Volunteering has always been a huge passion of mine and my charitable ambassadorships have become a very important aspect of my life. I especially love working with kids and teens, so throughout my charity work for California Kids Belong, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and Teen Cancer America, I have been able to help and support teenagers in person and online. I’m forever grateful to have my social media platforms, using them for the benefit of others and importantly raising awareness amongst my community and fans so they can spread the word too.
It has been a crazy past few years, how have you been staying positive?
That’s an interesting question, especially when you look back over recent years. Yes, it was crazy!
I have a positive mindset and remain determined whatever challenges come my way. For me, the transition from in-person to a more virtual life, on Zoom, went smoothly and I didn’t let it affect my schooling. That was so important to me. I tried to spread that positivity amongst my friends as it affected them in different ways, and I believe this helped. I’m adaptable to new environments and situations, but always try and spend quality time with friends and family who are loving and supportive, as life is a balance of the good as well as the tougher times, and navigating that isn’t easy without the help of those around you.
What is your motto in life?
I always live by the quote, “She believed she could, so she did”. It’s a quote from Roald Dahl, in “Matilda”. You can accomplish anything you put your mind to if you have a growth and positive mindset. I always tell myself to stay humble, trust in the process and yourself, be kind and respectful to everyone, and remember that when one door closes another opens.
