Happy Halloween! Or should I say Samhain, which is what us witches call Halloween. Samhain is the time of the year when the Pagans/Celts/Wiccans/etc. celebrate the New Year. This is the time when we bring in the colder darker months and prepare for the winter. Like many pagan holidays, there is much food involved! In addition to it being the New Year, it is also the time when the veil between the living world and the deceased is the thinnest, making it the ideal time to reach out to loved ones who are no longer with us.

Halloween is one of the most recognized of the pagan holidays that is celebrated. Some others include Christmas/Yule (Ever heard of a Yule log before or wonder why Jesus was “born in December”?) and Easter/Ostara (Ever wonder what bunnies have to do with Jesus? It is nothing, but they have a lot to do with Ostara!). The pagan beliefs are rich in culture, love, family, fun, food, and magick!

Jejune got the pleasure to speak with one particularly high profile good witch, Patti Negri, about her experiences and some of the ways she uses magick to give back! To learn more, please read out exclusive interview below!

Where are you based?
I am based in Hollywood, California, but work internationally.

What does it mean to be a “Good Witch”?
To me it means I do “positive” and “non manipulative” magick. I work with, and in, the light. An example… a love spell to bring in the love of your life is good or white magick… a love spell to bring in a SPECIFIC PERSON is dark, manipulative or black magick because we don’t have that person’s permission. (And if you have their permission – you don’t really need the love spell!)

How did you first get into magick?
I think it is just born in me! It’s in my blood! When I was just a toddler, I knew the spirits I could see were not just “imaginary” friends but real beings… I would be in my backyard and just knew that putting a little rosemary from the garden in my mother’s purse would help bring her money and abundance. I think we are all born with amazing insight and intuition – it’s just that in our modern and not very “mystical” society it gets taught out of us – or told it was just our imagination, but we should make logic more important. Guess it just never got taught out of me! ;o)

Do you have a type of pagan religion that you follow?
I am a pretty eclectic pagan and witch. I am definitely elementally based in my work – but pull from all belief systems (pagan and more mainstream) to create my personal road map or template to navigate life!

You started speaking with spirits at a young age. Can you please tell us about your first experience?
I was seven or eight when I did my first séance. I was just driven to speak to the dead – and not in a morbid or dark way. I went into my darkened hallway with my best friend Sherry Jones, and then realized that I didn’t know any dead people! So, I figured Marilyn Monroe and John Kennedy are dead. I know who they are so I will talk to them. I came up with my first chant and almost immediately my windowless, lightless hallway filled with lights and orbs! We of course ran out screaming as would be expected for little girls – but deep inside I was excited beyond belief seeing how really real this was – and how we as humans can control and tap into life on the other side. Thus began my life as a seeker!

How about your first psychic experience?
I don’t remember my age, but it was around that first séance time when my mom told me we were going to go meet the new neighbors and go to their house. I told her I had already been to their house last night. She said that could not be true, because we had not been there yet. So, I proceeded to tell her the color of every room, the designs in the wallpaper and layout of the house in detail. I thought everybody could travel in their sleep.

Does the third eye run in your family?
Yes, I believe it comes from both sides of my family. My mother said that her mother always knew when someone was going to pass because her mother visited her at the end of her bed every time to tell her. And even my mom was twice awakened from deep sleep with crackling in her ears – and at those same times my brother on the other side of the world in Vietnam had caught fire. My fathers side has old world mysticism as well coming from Spain and Turkey. Though my grandfather, a prominent psychoanalyst and well-known author and teacher, went the academic and scientific route/belief system… when I read the books he wrote, it was very similar to my magical beliefs – just using more scientific terms!

How does your family feel about you being a witch?
They love it! Due to my grandfathers’ influence, we were never raised with any traditional religions that would think my gifts or abilities were evil or from the devil – so it was always accepted and celebrated!

I have always said that being a witch is something you are born with, you can’t control having the third-eye. What are your thoughts on this?
Yes, I agree. I was definitely born with it. Though I also think one who isn’t born with it can learn and develop it – as well as those born with it, who don’t want it can shut it off! We were born with free will and the ability to choose what we believe and who we become!

Have you ever been judged for being a witch?
Ha, every day! I get comments and ridicule on my sweetest of messages sometimes. But I don’t take it personally. I know that much of our world is taught that what I do is wrong – so no matter how mean they may be – I just figure they are doing it from their (perhaps fear and control based) belief system, and are really just wanting to help or “save” me the only way they understand or know how. I just smile and thank them for their concern and let them know I am doing okay!

What inspired you to start using your magick to help others?
I think just seeing how amazing we humans are – and at the same time – how much we give away our power all the time! We give away our power to fear, to limiting belief systems, to other people, to most anything… I just want to give people a new and easily possible perspective of how powerful we really are!

Do you have any favorite stories of helping others with your abilities?
I have so many… helping people to get their health back, their happiness back, their life back – but one of my favorites is for its simplicity and practicality. A young man had died leaving his wife and young child. They did not know the password on his iPhone to get the photos and videos out. They were heartbroken about it. I did a session with them and the deceased man gave me the password. We opened the phone and all was well. They were delighted. This was about the same time that making National news was a situation where the FBI was trying to get Apple to give a password to help in a criminal case. Apple refused, no matter how good the intent. I thought to myself… dang, they should’ve just used an Ouija board and talked to the other side like I did! ;o

Can you tell us a little bit about working on Ghost Adventures?
I adore working with Zak, Aaron, Jay and Billy on Ghost Adventures. I think I just shot my 10th episode with them since I joined them in 2015. Their commitment to what they do, their passion and excitement is what fills every investigation. The show is always in complete integrity. They will keep me sequestered and tell me NOTHING about a location before they send me in. They want my true and honest insight and reactions to the place or situation. That makes every investigation a true, honest and often scary adventure!

You just wrote a new book. Can you tell us a little bit about “Old World Magick for the Modern World: Tips, Tricks, and Techniques to Balance, Empower, and Create a Life You Love”? What inspired you to write this?
I found myself coming up with lots of easy techniques to help people in their day to day life… I spent so much time telling them one by one – or in large group presentations, that I figured I should put it all in a simple and fun book that anyone could have and then I could stop repeating myself so much!

How do you feel magick can empower others?
I KNOW magick can inspire others. I see it every day! Magick is about taking your life into your own hands, taking responsibility for your life and creating the changes needed to create the life you truly want.

Do you have any advice for others trying to increase their abilities?
Yes, get my book. Hehe. Actually, there are a thousand techniques you can use. Find one, or several, that work for YOU and your belief system or view of the world. If you don’t know what your belief system or view is - then have fun exploring and figuring it out. That in itself will put you on a path that will increase your abilities!

Do you have a motto in life?
Just say YES! Jump in with both feet. Find joy and magick everywhere!
