Self-care is the biggest beauty trend of 2018, and it’s been a long time coming.  We often prioritize taking care of others, but neglect our own needs and desires. Finally, the time has come that the practice of caring for oneself through wellness rituals is recognized as a vital component of maintaining our physical wellbeing, as well as our emotional and mental health.  Rituals have powerful healing and anti-aging properties that revitalize the mind, body, and soul.

Self-care beauty rituals blend ancient knowledge from a variety of traditions and integrate them with modern wisdom, research, and technology. Here are five powerful rituals to detoxify your body, balance your energy, and beautify your skin to give you a radiant outer and inner glow.

Flower Baths

Flower medicine is an integral part of many cultural traditions and an essential part of healing. Famous beauties such as Cleopatra and Marie Antoinette bathed in flowers, milk, and honey to maintain their radiant complexions. The practice of bathing in flowers is an effective method of clearing negative energy and cleansing the aura. To create a luscious bathing experience fill your tub with warm water,  then add flowers to renew and strengthen your energy.  Some beautifying choices include Rose, to hydrate the skin, Peony, to tone and detoxify the skin, and Jasmine, to enhance and uplift your mood.  You can choose flowers from your backyard, organic flowers from the grocery store, or dried ones from an herbal shop. The best way to pick the right flowers for you is to select flowers that you are drawn to, whether by scent or visually. Add sea salts, crystals, essential oils, and natural candles to your bath experience for a powerful beautifying ritual that will make you feel luxurious.

Face Masks

We all love the transformative qualities of face masks and the glam power they hold, but did you know that everything you put on your skin goes directly into your bloodstream? That means the only beauty products you want to put on your skin are the ones that you can eat. Literally! The best part: some of the most powerful anti-aging ingredients are already right inside of your fridge and cupboard.

Here are some of the potent fundamentals to add to a face mask ritual:

Avocado: Full of rich oils and Vitamin E, this superfood penetrates deep into the skin to fight free radicals, hydrate the cells and nourish the epidermis.

Raw Honey: One of the oldest beautifying ingredients, raw honey is full of nutrients that nurture the skin. As a topical beauty treatment, it balances the skin’s delicate microbiome, and has potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Aloe Vera: Called the “plant of immortality” by the Ancient Egyptians, Aloe Vera moisturizes the skin, treats acne, and improves skin’s firmness and elasticity.

Dry skin brushing

Dry skin brushing is an ancient beauty ritual that might be one of the most inexpensive and simple beauty biohacks that exists.  Not only does it help increase circulation, it also has the power to reduce cellulite!  Skin brushing helps to invigorate and exfoliate the skin by removing dead skin cells. It also serves to detoxify and stimulate the lymphatic system, which is responsible for transporting waste out of your body.  Using a dry skin brush with natural bristles, simply brush in an upward motion toward your heart, starting at your feet. Pressure wise, think soft but firm, to energize the skin in a gentle manner. Add essential oils to create an even more luxurious experience and channel your inner goddess!

Coffee Enemas

A coffee enema is an ancient herbal hydrotherapy technique that has been around for hundreds of years. Although it may seem strange and scary, this amazing detoxifying ritual is nothing to fear. The benefits include higher energy levels, improved moods, and clear glowing skin. Enemas are one of the most efficient ways to remove toxins from your body. We absorb toxic chemicals and heavy metals daily from our food, water, air pollution and cosmetics. These toxins build up in our system and may contribute to anxiety, depression, illness, acne and rapid aging. Coffee enemas increase your liver and colon’s ability to eliminate toxins. As a result, your skin is doing less of this work which decreases acne and improves overall skin health. In addition, coffee enemas usher antioxidants into the body, cleanse and heal the colon, detoxify the liver, and improve hydration. Tonic meditation

Tonic meditation, also known as tea meditation, is an ancient ritual born over 1,800 years ago. This ritual is a powerful way to cultivate a sense of gratitude and create inner peace. For hundreds of years the people of Asia have been using tonic herbs and botanicals to maintain and promote radiant health. Eastern medicine is based on the premise that our whole body is an ecosystem. Therefore, if you want radiant skin, you’ve got to have a strong liver, healthy lungs, and balanced adrenals. Tonic herbs allow us to handle stress more easily, allowing for our body and mind to develop a high degree of adaptability to any situation, change or stress that might occur in our lives. This helps us to be more beautiful, energized, and vibrant all around. Through the practice of consuming tonic herbs, we transform into happy, healthy, radiant beings. To practice this beautifying ritual, do everything - from preparing your tonic, to sitting down, to drinking your tonic, to cleaning up - in mindfulness.
