Where are you based?
London, I grew up in Manchester
What inspired you to get into music?
I’ve always been musical as a kid and used to sing and play the guitar. One of my earliest memories is singing along to the Lightning Seeds in the car with my Dad. Fast forward to 2018… I was in Bali and a friend threw a surprise birthday party for me. Everyone was singing and a few people were playing the guitar and I realised “wow, I miss this.” So I bought a travel guitar on Amazon which was waiting for me when I got home. Then I started writing.
Who/what inspires you?
People, connection, and energy.
Can you tell us about your songwriting process?
When I first started writing, I used it as a cathartic emotional release tool. I picked up the guitar and started singing about whatever emotion I wanted to work through. Recently, I had the amazing experience of songwriting for a week at Rockfield Studios and I have a great technique that feels authentic to me and is super simple!!
These are my four simple steps to writing a hit from the heart:
Step 1: Name three songs that you wish you had written and listen to them
Step 2: Notice what the structure and mood is of the reference songs and create a vibe.
Step 3: Pick up a pen and write. Don’t think! Don’t stop! Allow the stream of consciousness to come through
Step 4 : Marry the melodic vibe from step 1 and 2 with the emotions and meaning of some of the words I have written in Step 3.
“Waiting On You” has a great sound with some interesting progressions! Can you tell us what the song is about? What inspired it?
I was fed up waiting on a girl to text or call me… who takes three days to reply to a WhatsApp? As I was working through the song it took on a second meaning which is to go after your desires and making life happen for you.
‘Morning Light’ has us bobbing our heads with the fun chords and the rhythm! What inspired the lyrics of this song?
This was the first full song I ever wrote. It’s about seeing your ex and knowing you’re not right for each other, but wanting one more night together.
Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with in the future?
I’m all about collaboration and I have been fortunate to collaborate with some amazing artists and producers already! It’s a huge reason why I work hard at this. So many people inspire me but off the top of my head — releasing a song with Ed Sheeran, writing with Ryan Tedder and learning from Jacob Collier. Also, I’m a sucker for a remix, so working with Kygo would be amazing. If anyone reading this likes my music and wants to collab then give me a message, I’m open to it.
What can we expect from your upcoming EP?
I love such a wide variety of music and my songs reflect this. My intention is that you’ll connect with the lyrics I sing and want to listen and sing along to them on a summer's day with the windows down!
Congratulations on winning the ‘Young Property Personality of the Year’! Can you tell us the significance of this?
It’s probably the most sought after award in Property that I could have won so I think it recognises and rewards the amazing work that our team has put in.
There seems to be a world housing crisis. We are certainly feeling it in the US. What would you like to see done to help fight this?
There is a huge undersupply of social housing across England and growing up in Manchester, I saw this first hand with a large population of rough sleepers in the city centre. HSPG is primarily a real estate investment company that creates demand-driven affordable housing, focusing on the impact we have for our residents. I’d like to see more accommodation to be built and I think there should be more incentives to do so.
What is your motto in life?
Live with intention.
It has been a rough few years, how have you been staying positive during these times?
Music, meditation and laughter.
