With a sound that is equally fierce and fearless, MEGG has built a career on raw emotion and an edge. From growing up in a home filled with music to jumping onstage with live bands as a kid, her passion for performing was undeniable. After dropping an impressive seven singles last year, MEGG is proving that overthinking is overrated. Alongside her singles, her latest track, The End, is also an anthem for anyone battling self-doubt when life seems too good to be true. Read on to learn more about MEGG and her unique music.

Where are you based?
LA & Nashville - I go back and forth.

What inspired you to explore the realm of music?
My parents were always playing loud music through the speakers at home, so I kinda just grew up listening to music. They would take my brothers and me to restaurants that had live music and my Mom said I would get on stage with the band and dance with them when I was like five. My parents put me in musicals immediately after that and the rest is history.

How would you describe your music style? Are there any musicians who have influenced your musical taste?
Loud and bratty, baby! And in terms of influences, there are many! Paramore, The Distillers, No Doubt, Britney Spears, Sublime, FIDLAR, Every Time I Die, Blink 182, Turnstile, Taking Back Sunday, The Used, Alanis Morissette, Joan Jett, Rancid — I mean, the list goes on and on. I get inspired by anyone making music that resonates with me in any genre.

Last year you dropped an impressive seven singles. How do each of these songs represent different aspects of your artistic journey?
Thank you! Releasing seven singles in a year was a bit of an experiment to push me to not edit my writing and releasing process. I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my art and I think it has hindered me in the past so this process was really “write, record, release” with ZERO time to second guess and go down the rabbit hole of editing and making eight different versions. I think every song except “Straitjacket” was written, recorded, and sent to distribution within three weeks. It was a hustle, but I learned a lot about myself through the process.

Congratulations on the release of your single “The End”. Can you share the story behind this song? What do you hope listeners take away from this single?
Thank you! The story is simple: I was having an annoying moment of self-doubt during a time in my life when everything was actually pretty great and it was pissing me off. It’s that thing where when life gets good, you have all these negative voices and opinions in your brain trying to take over and convince you a shoe is about to drop, which I think most people can relate to.

I hope listeners can find some sort of release in "The End", and hopefully a sore throat from screaming along.

You had a memorable appearance on NBC’s The Voice. What was that experience like, and how did it shape your journey as an artist?
The Voice was a trip. I won’t say much about the show, but I will say that it taught me to trust my gut and stay true to my artistry no matter what. I’m grateful for the experience and what it taught me, plus it was sick meeting Gwen Stefani.

We heard that you are set to play Vans Warped Tour this summer. What does it mean to you to be a part of such a legendary event?
Dude, it’s an absolute dream come true. I will forever be indebted to Kevin Lyman for this opportunity. Warped Tour was always the community and safe haven for the weirdos and misfits — I grew up attending this festival, literally daydreaming of the day I’d get to be on that stage!! Now, being a part of the WT community this summer and seeing my name on the bill means more than I'll ever be able to put into words.

In 2021 you started A Very South Bay Xmas. What inspired you to start this fundraiser?
Christmas music and community!  I thought it would be really fun to get a bunch of bands and artists together in the South Bay to write a compilation album of original Christmas music and put on a show/event in December to raise money for a local family in need. My friend Chris Davis introduced me to the Love Like Lexi Foundation and the whole fundraiser grew from there. It was really humbling how many artists and vendors wanted to be a part of it and each year it just kept getting bigger and bigger! I love my community and am so proud of A Very South Bay Xmas.

Can you tell us more about the goals of this fundraiser and how you went about achieving these goals?
I think the main goal is to rally the community together during the holidays to do some good for a local who needs help. There are tons of huge charities and organizations doing great work, but I really wanted to focus on the smaller foundations and/or families that could benefit greatly from the support and awareness from their community. I set a goal that each year we would raise more money than the prior and so far, we’ve been able to do that! Grateful for the whole AVSBX team and all the artists who have donated their talents & services over the years!!

In regards to the way I went about it, I just asked everyone I knew for help! I was pretty stunned with how much people and local businesses wanted to be a part of it.

You have been able to combine your love for music with your passion for humanitarian work. How do you think music can be a powerful tool for making a positive impact, especially in causes like pediatric cancer research?
I think music can be a powerful tool for making a positive impact just simply because it is the universal language. People listen to music to feel seen and heard, to relate, to connect, to process, to celebrate, and to escape and I think in this case, music helped bring awareness to a very specific and tragic thing. It was easy to sell tickets, CDs, and merch — people WANT to see live music, they want to celebrate and feel good during the holidays but they also want to do their part. Providing an event where they could be with friends and family, listen to live music with a beer in hand, and be merry while simultaneously supporting pediatric cancer is just a no-brainer.

How do you hope A Very South Bay Xmas will evolve in the future? Are there any new plans or collaborations on the horizon to make the fundraiser even bigger and more impactful?
I hope AVSBX evolves into a traveling act where we can support “local” foundations all over the country while also spotlighting the independent talent in those areas! We are currently working on our 501-c3 application and once that goes through, this fundraiser will kick into high gear. I have a huge vision for this fundraiser, just wait!!

We love that 100% of ticket sales and album sales are donated to the Love Like Lexi Foundation. Can you tell us a bit about the Love Like Lexi Foundation and why you chose to support them?
The Love Like Lexi Foundation is a non-profit organization established in loving memory of Lexi Lee Walker who spent the majority of her life battling stage 4 high-risk neuroblastoma until her ascent to heaven on May 12, 2021, at the age of three. The foundation supports the promising research of Child Oncologist, Dr. Shahab Asgharzadeh, a physician-scientist and the principal investigator of the Asgharzadeh Laboratory at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Dr. A was so inspired by Lexi, he started researching alternate therapies to chemo for kids such as immunotherapy, which helps the body's natural immune cells recognize cancer as unauthorized and fight against it. Lexi’s triumph and legacy can be found in this new therapy that has the potential to bring breakthroughs and save the lives of future kids in her shoes - she initiated a brand new treatment option and new research for relapsed neuroblastoma.

When my buddy and AVSBX board member, Chris Davis, told me about the Love Like Lexi Foundation, I knew I needed to help. Chris told me that even through all the treatments, Lexi’s spirit never wavered; she was consistently a ball of joy and sunshine, even in her darkest moments. Her story is truly devastating and her fight is inspiring. It's incredibly important that we take care of our children and Dr. A’s quest to find non-toxic therapies for cancer for kids is amazing work. It’s a wonderful foundation.

Are there any upcoming projects you would like to share?
Yeah! I’m currently working on an EP! Hoping to release it in the Fall.

It has been a crazy past few years, and we suspect at least four more. How have you been staying positive?
I work out to relax my brain, spend as much time at the beach as possible, write songs, control the things I can control, and focus on the good in my life.

What is your motto in life?
“Who cares.”
