Love In Tennis
Love In Tennis
Seeing this editorial for the first time, it reminded me of my love for tennis and, as a little girl, I enjoyed watching one player most of all: Chris Evert. She brought a sense of style to her game. I started playing with a wooden racket, named after her. I liked her fashion style, patience, the strong mental aspect she brought to the game, and her surprisingly strong, two-handed back-hand. I watched her intensity and modeled my game after hers.
At Jejune, we like to bring out the social relevance with any story presented in the magazine. At first, I wasn't sure if this editorial had any, but then the relevance became obvious. Its theme lies in a healthy living style with a “work+play” balance mentality. Tennis is one of the few sports that you can play for the rest of your life. It’s also a social sport. I have been on various teams and formed great relationships, had fun, some drinks, and laughs. Tennis players are among the leanest athletes because of the continuous running and the fast stops and starts while playing. When I played on the team, unfortunately, I had the worst diet with McDonalds as my go to after a match. Still, I had not one ounce of fat. I was in the best shape ever.
Summer is coming, if you haven't started tennis yet, buy a racket, take a few lessons, and hit the courts with a friend or partner, or join a league. It's nice to get out of the gym and enjoy some sunshine. If you need any recommendations of where to play or how to join a league in NYC, please feel free to e-mail me at jejunemagazine@gmail.com
