Cal Mosack Finds The Right Fit With Nic Tailor

When Cal Mosack established the brand Nic Tailor for men’s undergarments, he did it with the goal of creating a piece of clothing that would take practicality to the next level with comfort and inclusivity, with the need to raise awareness for men's body positivity in mind. Cal Mosack’s mission with Nic Tailor is not out to sell unique underwear, but to send out an urgent message concerning body positivity and men’s mental health. Mosack sat down with Jejune to talk about his vision for Nic Tailor, the brand’s partnership with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and a certain Twilight actor, and the harmful stigma surrounding prostate cancer. Where are you based?
Nic Tailor is based in the great State of  North Carolina.

What inspired you to create Nic Tailor? Can you talk a bit about the brand’s trajectory - how did this idea come into fruition?
Nic Tailor was conceived from the realization that there should be better fitting undergarment options for men, beyond the traditional sizing.  Everyone’s body type is unique, so we cater to that by creating underwear from high quality fabrics that doesn’t shift.  Comfort and fit is key.

What is Nic Tailor’s philosophy? How does the brand differ from other men’s undergarment brands?
Nic Tailor’s philosophy is simple: We’ll give you the most comfortable undies on the planet, while also aiming to set a philanthropic standard.

Other brands come in S-M-L-XL-2XL. We cut and sew waist sizes 28”-48”, and provide four different inseam lengths. We are truly customized, where other brands clearly are not.

Men’s body positivity isn’t discussed as much as it needs to be. How does Nic Tailor advocate for men’s body positivity?
We are passionate about making men feel good and secure with whatever shape or size they are. Women can buy bras in a zillion different shapes and sizes. Why shouldn’t men not have the ability to wear underwear that is super comfortable, while also making them feel good about their body type? Wearing clothing that properly fits makes you feel better, and is much more figure flattering.  We believe the same to be true when it comes to your underwear.

Nic Tailor also partnered up with Prostate Cancer Foundation. Can you talk about this collaboration, and what inspired you to partner with them?
PCF is an absolutely amazing foundation that is on a mission to spread awareness for prostate cancer. It was a no brainer for us to partner with them. We’re like-minded in that we have an extreme passion to spread awareness, and encourage men to get regular screenings.

Can you talk about #NicTailorNoPants campaign? How did you work towards this idea? Why did social media become the vehicle to carry out your mission?
The #NicTailorNoPants campaign was born and driven by the fact we’ve all been relegated to work at home. We believe humor is so important, so why not have some fun with suggesting pants aren’t necessary-- and you might as well wear the best fitting underwear while sitting at home!  It was a fun, and cheeky way to get a conversation started when it comes to prostate cancer awareness. The purpose was to bring much needed attention to the disease, and we were certainly successful in that.

1 in 9 men will be diagnosed by Prostate Cancer in their lifetime, yet this is not advocated for or talked about enough. How can we follow Nic Tailor’s example to create safe spaces and encourage conversations on Prostate Cancer and men’s mental health?
It’s incredibly unfortunate that Prostate Cancer awareness isn’t discussed more than it is. In some way we all are touched  (directly or indirectly) by this cruel and painful disease. It could be a family member, a friend, a friend of a friend. Nic Tailor can’t over sell the fact that we all must be advocates to accelerate Prostate Cancer awareness.  It’s one of the leading reasons we created the Dry Fly brief.

Twilight star Peter Facinelli joined the fight, sharing with People Exclusive about taking part in the campaign. What was partnering up with Facinelli like?
We can’t express our gratitude strongly enough to Peter for his incredible and powerful commitment to spreading awareness of Prostate Cancer. We are honored to have connection with Peter, and he was happy to take part given his dad is a prostate cancer survivor. Peter is truly one of the greatest guys!

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month took place in September, but your partnership with Prostate Cancer Foundation continued into Movember. What are you looking forward to regarding the work you’ve done with Prostate Cancer Foundation?
We look forward to continuing to support prostate cancer awareness, and the incredible work of Prostate Cancer Foundation.  It’s a cause we truly stand behind, and one that we’ll keep pushing beyond the months devoted to it.

The stigma that comes with Prostate Cancer Diagnosis often discourage men from seeking help and treatment. Where do you believe this reluctance to talk openly about it comes from? How can we break free from it?
Great question. It’s certainly not a pleasant experience but one that Is critically necessary. I personally had a prostate biopsy several months ago. It was a painful experience, but it was well worth the discomfort and I’m blessed that biopsy results were negative. We have to continue to push awareness and hopefully the stigma will dissolve into a non-issue. We need to support and encourage everyone to get screened.

What would you recommend to someone who’s family member or loved one who has been diagnosed? How could we hold their hand tighter and become that support system?
Give them total love, encouragement, and lean on your faith. Give them unconditional support.

Can you share any resources available for individuals undergoing diagnosis and their loved ones?
Use the terrific resources that Prostate Cancer Foundation has to offer, which you can find on their website. Consult with your personal physician, and request the best medical references to support your commitment while you undergo diagnosis. It’s well worth it.

What’s in store for Nic Tailor? Would you like to share with Jejune any upcoming projects you’re excited about?
We are introducing a horizontal fly option, patterns, and loungewear in the next few months… We’ve also got something else brewing on the philanthropic front, so stay tuned for that…

How are you staying positive during shelter-in-place?
While it is a challenging world we’re all living in, there’s so much to be positive about...like working from home or other remote places with your trusty Nic Tailor’s on...no need for pants! It also it gives us invaluable time with our families… No substitute for that.

What is your life motto?
“What part of living says you’ve got to die, I plan on burning through another 9 lives!!!”
