Giddy Up with the Americana Rock Band Me Nd Adam

The rambunctious duo, Me Nd Adam, are making their mark in the alternative rock scene. Straight out of Texas, the pair found their way to music through the depths of life, and have since used their talents to encourage others to keep going. With the release of their newest album American Drip Pt.II this July, we got a chance to chat with the group about their inspiration behind some of the singles and the message of the album itself. Keep reading to learn more about these rocker trailblazers and how they not only rock out but give back their community.

Where are you based?
We’re born, raised, and based in Austin, Texas, USA.

How did this duo get started? Was this the goal or something that just happened?
We had other bands that burned out and weren't doing much, but hanging out at dive bars. One day we decided to try and get our mojo back, and ended up making a song called “Foolish Lover.” We decided to release it and got a good response, so we just kept making more songs. A longer-term goal came together when we linked with Handwritten Records and started performing live with our five-piece band.

You formed in the middle of covid, how did that impact you?
We did not, our first song was actually released in 2016. That said, I think Covid gave us the time and space to start taking the project very seriously.

Has music always been something you wanted to pursue growing up?
Certainly!

Congrats on your new album, American Drip Pt.II!  Is there a story or message you want the audience to receive from listening to this album?
If they’re feeling rough or in flux, I hope they feel like they’re not alone. This album is about change and transition and growth. Finding light through the darkness.

“Best of Me” has such a fun sound! What was the inspiration for this rock’n single?
Drugs and alcohol.

”Heartbeat of My Soul” is also a great song! Can you tell us the story behind it?
We wrote this song with our buddy George Gekas of The Revivalists and our live guitarists Ian Green. They both tend to get a bit “funkier” than Vince and I. We wanted to push ourselves out of our comfort zone a bit.

Your music can be very unique from song to song. How would you describe your sound to a new listener? Is there a genre you lean more towards?
We cover a lot of ground and have a lot of influences, but our new album tends to find a home base in americana/alternative rock, with a modern sense of production.

Not only do you have epic music, but you give back to the world. You guys host a benefit called  “Keep Austin Cheer’d”, can you tell us more about that? You have raised money for Casa Marinella. Why was Casa Marinella important to you to support?
We throw a party every winter in Austin, TX to celebrate our hometown’s unique culture. Austin is weird, or at least it used to be, arts and tech intersect in the middle of the Texas hill country. There are hipsters, musicians, artists, cowboys, and tech bros all living on the same block. We try to bring an element of each of these cultures to the party, and help out an amazing local charity, Casa Marianella, that provides services and support to immigrants. Everyone should feel welcomed and appreciated in Austin!

You consistently work with Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). Can you tell us about the HAAM and the work you do with them? Why is what they do important to you?
Austin is unique in that it’s home to another amazing charity, HAAM. The Health Alliance for Austin Musicians provides support and healthcare assistance to Austin’s many musicians. Vince and I are both members and couldn’t imagine our lives without their help.

Is there any advice you would give to up-and-coming musicians trying to make it on their own?
If we figure it out we’ll let you know.

It has been a crazy past few years. How have you been staying positive?
Most of being an indie musician is running your own small business. Being able to go on tour and release music is the “cherry on top” that makes it all worth it.

What is your motto in life?
Giddy Up or Giddy Out!
