I’m With Her

I am an American woman and I have been increasingly terrified over the past two years. The loss of Roe vs Wade was the first gunshot wound, and it feels like the American women have been under rapid (AK47 level) attack since (and they are hitting a lot more than just an ear). While other countries are celebrating electing female presidents (good job Mexico!) the USA feels like we are going back to the Victorian Era.

With the loss of Abortion rights comes a ton of issues. It is a quick slippery slope to lose contraceptive rights (something Project 2025 is keen on) among other issues. If women don’t have the right to what happens with their own body, what freedom do we have?

Babies are miracles. I personally saw how having a baby breathed new life and hope into a friend of mine in Ukraine as she struggles with the ongoing war. I’m of that age where a lot of my friends are having babies and I’m loving going on this journey with them. But having children is extremely expensive, especially in this country with our lack of affordable healthcare and support for families.

With the current economy it is almost impossible to have a one income family. With both partners having to work, the timing of a new addition is very important. In addition, the burden of taking care of the child often falls on the mother. So, having a baby at the wrong time can completely unroot a career. Often leaving the woman in a less financially ideal place than a man.

And this is in the cases if a woman is partnered and in a good place. What if she isn’t? What if she is just starting a new career, school, is an athlete, or completely broke? Or much worse – What if she is raped, abused, or there is something horribly wrong with the child or her because of the pregnancy? What if she has genes that she personally is scared to pass onto another generation? Or.. what if she just doesn’t want to be a mother?

Being a woman is expensive!

Because we make babies, our healthcare is more complicated, less researched, and more costly. Period products are far from cheap (although I’m a huge fan of period panties for many reasons, one being cost). Contraceptives can be very expensive depending on your insurance, if you have insurance, and is very questionable for your body. All of these fall on the woman.

Women have been fighting a long time for equal rights, and we still have a long fight ahead of us. The 2016 presidential election between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump really showed us this. I might be a bit more liberal than Clinton, but in no way did I think that she would lose to Trump. I went into the election excited and confident that America would have their first female president. How could this smart and extremely experienced woman lose to this loud mouthed idiot of a reality TV star?? That’s crazy, right??

Well, as we know, the unimaginable happened. But it was much worse than we could have ever thought. We lost three Supreme Court Judge seats to extremely conservative young individuals who will shape America for many years to come. How crazy is it that these people can just stick around until they die??

2020 we got Biden, honestly, I’m not sure how that happened as well. But he did the job and we got him elected. But come 2024 no one was excited for him to keep running. Nothing against the guy, but he is older than 90%+ of the USA population.

The fear started to creep in.

I would randomly break out into tears. My anxiety has been through the roof. The debate happened exactly as I thought it would, making everything worse. There was a little bit of hope when people started to learn about Project 2025, but on the flip side, there is a Project 2025, which is the scariest part of all of this! Project 2025 started going viral and hopefully people could see what was at stake with another Trump presidency. If you don’t know what Project 2025 is, this video is a pretty good review. Basically it is terrifying, and if you are anything other than a cis wealthy white christian man, you are screwed.

Then Trump got shot (shot at?). F*CK!

“God intervened!” “He is sent from God to lead us!” “He is a hero!” “A martyr!”

We are f*cked..

I don’t know if we will ever truly know what happened and why a republican white boy tried to shoot him, but it doesn’t matter to his fans. This was a “message from god”.

We went from having two old men, one losing his cognitive abilities and another one who arguably already did but no one seems to care.. To a super old guy who is falling apart vs god’s chosen savior.

As we know, after much drama Biden has stepped down. I have mixed feelings on the whole issue, but I do have to say that for the first time in two years, I have hope for women again.

Kamala Harris. In 2020, I 100% would have picked her over Biden and now I think a lot of us, especially women, are all in.

With Clinton it felt like we had nothing to lose, she was a shoe in. Now we know better. It is Handmaid’s Tale vs having the first woman who is also a person of color as our president!! Could it be any more night and day!?

Like Clinton, Harris is a smart, experienced candidate who I would be proud to drive our country into the future. Unlike Clinton, Harris has the urgency and a bit less drama behind her.

This election just went from depressing to making history in one of the most exciting (hopefully not terrifying) ways.

I know that I’m With Her! And I think you should be too. Let’s be on the positive side of history!
