Where are you based?
I live in Las Vegas at the moment; moved here in 2018. People think it’s a crazy place, but it actually has a small town vibe to it, so much so, that Mark Wahlberg and many other people from LA are moving here as well.. the secret is out I guess.
What inspired you to start Live 4 Love Charities?
Back in 1996, Prince and I were expecting our son “Amiir” and he wanted to share the love, the happiness and to give back. So, he walked into my office and asked if we should start a foundation, so we did, ( Amiir’s handprint is in honor of him). The day the foundation was created was on my birthday.
Can you tell us about your organization? What message do you hope to send?
We wanted to give love, show love, and help others. Our mission statement is “helping people and helping people out”. It’s what’s missing in the world today, with love you can do anything.
What are some of the significant challenges your charity has faced, and how have you addressed or overcome them?
The challenges have been to keep Prince’s legacy alive, and also create ones that we know he would approve of and love. Also getting the word out. We used to be a private foundation as he funded everything, now that we are public, we need to raise funds, get the word out of who we are, what we plan to do, and how.
What opportunities are available for individuals or groups looking to contribute their time and skills to your charity?
Right now following our socials, interacting with us, and spreading the word. Soon we will have programs that need help with in many avenues. We will also have a main headquarters where we will need volunteers. We are looking for like minded people to help with our programs.
Are there any memorable moments with your charity you would like to share?
Every time we help someone out, and of course his memory, the events we had together, will always have a special place in my heart!
We heard that you are announcing your 10/10 Award. Can you tell us more about this award?
We did a much smaller version of this during the pandemic. We had people nominate anyone doing good and we chose everyday someone who helped with the community, or just plan good people, and gave them 100 dollars. Now we are doing it on a much larger scale, and the outcome has been very inspiring and so positive!
How has your charity developed since its establishment?
Back when it was just Prince, Kirk, and I, we just found people who needed help or schools, musicians, pretty much anybody that needed help, and we would do it. With the new charity and the board, we have a mission statement and have plans to create programs for children, people, and many in need. You will see a lot of new stuff coming out to help in the near future.
We also heard about the Holiday Celebration at the Capri. Can you tell us more about this event?
It was an amazing event, and I will make sure you get to see the video.
Can you tell us a little bit about your Live 4 Music program?
When I was a little girl I always dreamt of studying with Twila Tharp, Debbie Reynolds, but never in my wildest dreams did I think it would ever happen. I have started with music and will later on move to dance, art, and many other things. The musicians we have ready to give private one on one classes to talented underprivileged children is really amazing. When I asked for their help they all said yes so FAST! So it’s going to be an amazing program and, of course, a concert to bring it all together.
What are your hopes for the future of Live 4 Love Charities?
I would love to have several branches in different cities, where we meet and create amazing programs for children and people in need.
In what ways does the charity engage with the local community or a broader audience to raise awareness and garner support?
I am slowly reaching out to charities, people, and sharing as much as I can. With our programs and outreach, I think people will be interested and want to engage in something so positive and full of love.
Were there any memorable partnerships or collaborations you would like to share?
Brown bag lady, when I went to help feed the homeless with her, it was an amazing experience and left me motivated to do more.
Are there any exciting upcoming projects you would like to share?
Right now: Live 4 Music and our year end gala.
It has been a crazy past few years, how have you been staying positive?
I try to always realize someone is having a bad day and the least you can do is be positive and give a smile.. I am not perfect, but I tend to keep moving, and believe that things always get better.
What is your motto in life?
Live 4 Love and adopt don’t shop.
