Where are you based?
Los Angeles and New York.

How did you get into fashion and design?
In 1993, I met Nick Raskind at my store on the Lower East Side in New York. He had a brand called Brooklyn Headhunters. I came up with some ideas and he helped me start my clothing business alongside my barber business.

What inspired the creation of Hi Post? Why the relaunch now?
I have always had passion for art, it started with graphics then transferred to hair and barbering and clothing was just a natural extension of community and self-expression. The relaunch of Hi Post came out of an increased awareness of the 16 million tons of textile waste per year in the USA. I wanted to be a source that makes cool items and helps to save the planet at the same time.

How is your brand a cross between sustainability and community?
We focus on local businesses, supporting each other within the community. Our team consists of neighborhood residents. We source locally and repurpose clothing to create one-of-a-kind clothing. Their strong bonds and familial connections contribute to the growth of the local economy.

What was the inspiration behind your new collection: Nothing is Old; Nothing is New?
The concept came from the saying that means history repeats itself. What has been done will be done again. The clothing that we find and rework have a uniqueness that also makes them one-of-a-find.

We love the patchwork design. What inspired this look?
Patchwork consolidates the pattern’s cool factor. It’s an updated version of the classic men’s plaid shirt. Hi Post patchwork clothing brings together alternative and normative, adopted by both the counter-culture and the mainstream.

Your designs source from other designs, where do you get your fabrics?
Our fabrics are carefully handpicked at thrift stores, flea markets, and from branded clothing overstock.

Please tell us more about your thrifting process. What do you look for in each piece?
We scour the thrift stores in various areas to find the best fabrics, classic logos, and items that have a history. We think in the long term. Good clothing is an investment. We want each piece to be worn frequently, to have a timeless design and to be well made.

Each piece of clothing is beautifully crafted and carefully curated. What is the design process for creating these funky, original pieces?
Creativity is the driving force behind fashion design. My skills come from my beginnings as a graphic designer. The artists at my gallery, street style and even my students inspire me.

How does this collection compare to previous collections?
Our latest collection for SPRING/SUMMER 2025 is the Hi Post City Campus collection. Ivy silhouettes are mosaically, intricately assembled to create upcycled retro garments from deconstructed vintage team uniforms.

Why did you want your brand to represent sustainability?
I founded Hi Post to address the issue of sweatshops. My focus is on creating stylish art wear that incorporates the environmentally friendly principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, known as the 3 Rs.

What sets your brand apart from other sustainable brands?
Creativity, innovative ideas, and a strong sense of curiosity have paved the way for transformative changes within the Hi Post clothing brand.

We love that you are also a passionate special education teacher. How does teaching influence your creative process?
I come from the heart. My students taught me that.

Can you tell us about your new project CLLCTV.NYC?
We are creatives. We are a community.  We are more than a studio. We do not follow your rules.  We produce events around creative endeavors that disrupt the status quo. We connect artists and other creatives to a supportive audience. We curate the story told by artists utilizing apparel, moving visuals, immersive events, and art itself. We do art, respectively — collectively. We are CLLCTV.NYC.

It has been a crazy past few years, how have you been staying positive?
Creativity.

What’s your motto in life?
Stick with it; finish the chapter at all costs.
