It's New York Fashion Week and we are feeling the inspiration of what's going on in the world of fashion.  Whether you're going to the shows or not, you can binge watch these documentaries to your hearts content at any time. You may even learn something while you're at it!  At Jejune, we focus on making the world a better place, supporting the environment, loving one another, and staying positive.  Go ahead and pop some popcorn, have some sips of bubbles, and grab some of your fave fashionistas. Here's our list of recommended films for the activist in you!

Nadya, a recruited 13-year -old who gets financially taken advantage of during her modeling work in Japan finds the industry to be less glamorous than it originally seemed.

Picture Me (2011)

Documentary features Sara Ziff as a young model and charts her rise from unknown to her picture's placement on billboards and magazines. Ziff is currently an American fashion model, filmmaker, and labor activist. She is the founder and executive director of the Model Alliance, a nonprofit organization in New York City.

Straight/Curve: Redefining Body Image (2017)

Straight/Curve examines the fashion industry and the obstacles responsible for our current body image crisis. It showcases the dynamic leaders fighting for more diversity of size, race and age.

The Gospel According to Andre (2017)

Catwalk (1995)

Catwalk observes the day to day life of model, Christy Turlington working in Milan, Paris and New York. This is when the modeling industry started changing and diversity on the runways started to develop. Turlington's mother is from El Salvador.

Notebook on Cities and Clothes is a documentary film about Yohji Yamamoto. This is start of Japan evolving fashion. It wasn't just the US & Europe...Japanese influence added to the culture of fashion.

Paris Is Burning (1990)

Paris is Burning focuses on drag queens living in New York City and their "house" culture, which provides a sense of community and support for the flamboyant and often socially shunned performers. Touching on LGBTQ issues including racism and poverty, the film features interviews with a number of renowned drag queens, including Willi Ninja, Pepper LaBeija and Dorian Corey.

Runway The Look (1992)

Part one goes behind the scenes at runway shows in Paris, Milan, London and New York, and examines who sat where on the political map of fashion at the time. This iconic film also explores the evolution of the supermodels.

Rose Mae Turner is a fashion designer and wardrobe stylist. She specializes in designing sustainable swimwear and her brand, Rosina~Mae takes you "from the beach, to the street, to the party". Ethically made in the USA, Rose manufactures everything in Manhattan's Garment District and strives to incorporate ethically sourced materials. Nominated "Who to Watch" by Chicago Splash in 2016, she also received the "Distinguished Alumnus Award" from Dominican University in April of 2017. Her love of sustainable fashion shapes how she approaches projects within the fashion industry. Additionally, Rose also enjoys contributing as a writer and stylist to various publications. Helping to shed light on brands that are making a difference within the fashion industry and promoting them is a passion. She has currently had content published in many magazines both digital and print. July 1st, 2017 marked her one year anniversary of living in NYC and she couldn't be happier!
